This weeks Music Monday is all about future queen of music (& hopefully the world) MØ, pronounced mew, she hails for the beautiful land of Denmark from a little town called Odense. She showed up on my musical radar in mid 2013 with her Bikini Daze EP featuring hit production with Diplo XXX 88. With her catchy yet smart lyrics, unique voice and effortless style I soon became obsessed.
Karen Marie Ørsted aka MØ began back in 2012 in a punk/electo band named MOR before taking her talents solo. Initially recording a cappella tracks in her bedroom recording booth before taking it to the next level and working with some killer producers she was soon churning out hits and making a name for herself. Prior to the release of her first EP, MØ released Glass & Pilgrim as singles which soon grabbed people attention and cemented her name as a up & coming new artist to watch.
But it wasn't till the release of Don't Wanna Dance that MØ began to take up a more global platform and her music was being heard all around the world. This lead up to the release of her debut album No Mythologies To Follow, which in my opinion, might be one of the best albums of 2014. Original & packed with hits and solid album tracks it leaves you thirsty to hear what MØ is gonna come out with next.
Oozing with originality MØ is truly a trailblazer and seems to be making her very own genre of music. With slight comparisons to Grimes & Robyn, MØ seems to be making this gritty electo pop music with a whole lotta heart. With tracks that just make you wanna get up and dance like Glass, Walk This Way & Don't Wanna Dance to heart felt tracks such as Never Wanna Know, Dust is Gone & Gone and Found, she gives you a real mix of sound and emotion all in one album..... not forgetting throwing in a Spice Girls cover of Say You'll Be There too, she really does cover all bases.
Certainly one to watch she has already be awarded multiple Danish Music Awards at the 2014 ceremony for Breakthrough & Solo Artist of the year along with Record and Music Video of the Year.
She was also featured on Iggy Azalea's re-released debut album Reclassified on the track Beg For It. MØ has also recently collaborated with Major Laser and Ariana Grande on the track All My Love for the Hunger Games: MockingJay Pt.1 OST. MØ helped write the track with Lorde..... so you know if you're working with world wide phenomenons Lorde & Ariana Grande after only releasing your debut album, your doing it right.
Cannot wait to see where MØ's career is going to go from here..... we're thinking only up from what we've seen & heard so far. Keep up the great work Karen!
