Time for another music monday!
This week it's all about up & coming Rae Morris. I first became aquatinted with Rae's work back in early December 2014 at a Bombay Bicycle Club gig as she was supporting the band on their tour, and doing a bloody good job. Around then I had only heard a couple of Morris's track such as 'Skin', which is a beauty of a track. From here my interest began I started to follow her career, and what a career she has had in 2014. I've seen her appearing everywhere.
In 2014 she released a bevy of singles leading up to the release of her debut album Unguarded due out around the 26th of January... so today! She is definitely a power house vocalist with superb control over her instrument, yet she never over does it. Rae, from what I've heard so far, knows exactly when & where to use her strong vocals.
She also plays a mean piano, so she is one of those multitasking performers which makes her so interesting to watch perform live. But musical talent aside, one thing I love form Rae are her music videos. There is always a stunning and interesting visual concept going on. Be it the in sync choreography from her track with Fryars 'Cold' to the stunning 'Do You Even Know' with its stillness and stop animation elements. She definitely has a good creative team behind her.
Her sound is clearly a unique one. Upon first discovering her music I thought she had a more clean and classic sound, almost Adele like in sound but come 2014 she has revealed a new facet to her style. With cool pop melodies and old school r'n'b beats topped with killer lyrics. It is a stunning combination. I'm clearly going to be playing her debut 'Unguarded' on repeat. I like to think of Morris of like an Adele & Sam Smith combo sprinkled with some Clean Bandit and a dash of Bombay Bicycle Club, maybe this has came from collaborating with some of there fellow acts already, adding vocals on BBC's latest album and with Clean Bandit on 'Up Again'
Rae is sure to have a great year in 2015, with already being shortlisted for the Sound of 2015 by the BBC.
Hope you enjoy her music, have a listen to some of my fave tracks linked below.
